Service Description

Moxa (moxibustion) is a form of warming therapy that involves burning herbs and applying the resulting heat to specific points on the body very close the surface of the skin. The intention is to warm and invigorate the flow of Qi in the body and dispel certain pathogenic factors, like cold or dampness. This technique can be used alone or in combination with acupuncture The main purpose for moxibustion is to strengthen immune system, prevent diseases and treat chronic pain or muscle tension. It is especially used for pain that is worse with exposure to cold or damp weather, as with some types of arthritis pain. When applied to acupuncture points that strengthen and lift the Qi, moxa treatment can boost the immune system and help with it. In the process practitioner hold a burning moxa stick which looks like an over sized cigar close to, but not touching, the surface of the skin. Moxa producing a unique form of very penetrating heat, which affecting certain acupuncture points until the area reddens and becomes warm. Patients during moxibustion could feel sudden flooding of warmth that quickly radiates along a specific pathway away from the place of application. This is a good result, as it indicates the arrival of the Qi. Moxa usually used for such condition: • Low immunity and prevention against cold and flu • Pain due to injury or arthritis, especially with “cold” sensations • Digestive problems • Gynecological conditions Often I can do both acupuncture and moxibustion at the same clinic session when appropriate to the diagnosis.
