Winter season advice from Chinese Medicine

Winter in Chinese medicine represents the most Yin aspect and is associated with the Kidneys which hold our body’s most basic and fundamental energy. Yin is the dark, cold, slow, inward energy. TCM is believed that by harmonizing yourself with the seasons you can stay healthier and prevent disease, so winter is a good time to strengthen the kidneys. Activities should represent the season with a turn inwards.

What recommended to do:

  • Slow down, rest, and relax to be in tune with the season.

  • Meditate and do inward practices (writing, reading, reflecting, nourishing soul work)

  • Even physical activities should be more pointed inward like Tai Chi and Qi Gong

  • Go to bed earlier and sleep later to receive the full healing effects that sleep has to offer
